GamingVPN is a native iOS application that routes mobile gaming traffic through low-latency servers to reduce ping, built by Aipxperts in Swift and SwiftUI.
The same binary ships to Mac through Designed for iPad, with its own connection and speed-test path. Two populations use it: free users earning VPN time through rewarded ads and referrals, and premium subscribers on weekly, monthly and yearly plans.
The problem
A VPN sells an invisible benefit. Lower ping does not announce itself, and a gamer who has just installed a free app has no reason to believe a paywall's claim about milliseconds. That created the commercial problem this project actually solved:
A single take-it-or-leave-it paywall converts poorly, because the ask arrives before any evidence.
Users who decline once tend to churn, taking the future conversion with them.
Free users cost money to serve and produce nothing unless they re-enter the funnel.
There was a second problem that was purely technical and considerably nastier. An existing user base held entitlements in a legacy Apple receipt system, and the app was moving to RevenueCat. Getting that reconciliation wrong would have downgraded paying customers to Free at launch, which is the fastest way to turn a subscriber into a refund request and a one-star review.
What we built
We restructured the monetisation around proof rather than persuasion.
Apple NetworkExtension with NEVPNManager, running IKEv2 with AES-256-GCM, SHA-384 and DH group 20, plus on-demand rules.
A server-driven list with over 200 country flag assets, so routes change without an app release.
A route-optimisation flow for users who want the app to choose.
Parallel ping testing with ranked results and best-route highlighting, plus network speed testing and data-usage statistics.
Remote paywalls for the first two steps with dynamic pricing, then a native one-hour countdown discount screen.
Daily-capped rewarded ads, a two-sided referral programme and cross-promotion install rewards.
Universal-link attribution with iCloud Keychain identity recovery, which is an anti-abuse measure as much as a convenience: it stops a user farming referral rewards by deleting and reinstalling.
Banner, interstitial, native, rewarded and app-open formats with multi-network mediation.
